Department of Information Science and Engineering

I hearty welcome all the students and their parents to the Department of Information Science and Engineering. Information Science and Engineering is an essence of today’s world. We are committed to providing not only the technical education to our students but also the leadership qualities through which they can create employment to others. We believe that our students have been well accepted in their job profiles and have consistently exceeded expectations of the corporate world. During study at the department, the students are encouraged to get hands-on experience in the corporate world through internship projects with reputed organizations. In their curriculum they are encouraged to take up mini projects to supplement theoretical knowledge with practical experience. We provide an opportunity for students to work as members of a team to organize events such as IKYA( a cultural fest), participate in workshops ,technical and cultural fests organized by other colleges and also get involved in activities of social relevance. The teaching module comprises lectures, tutorials and practical. The methodology adopted in the classroom teaching is based on application of innovative strategies, comprehensive lectures, regular assignments and interaction between teachers and students. Our graduates are working in Multinational Companies, as an IAS officer, Academic Institutions in India and abroad. I congratulate to the team of faculty members and the students for their brilliant and their efforts. I wish all the Students and Faculty a great academic career. Last but not least our Technical supporting staff is unique in its own way. Students, as well as visitors, find them very friendly, amicable and highly intelligent!

COURSE

Scope of the Branch:

  • Information Science is an interdisciplinary science primarily concerned with analysis, manipulation, storage, retrieval of information.
  • It is a broad field incorporating not only the aspects of computer science, but often diverse fields such as communications, management, law etc.

Nagarjuna college of Engineering and Technology was established in the year 2001 with Information Science & Engineering as one of the branch with an intake of 60 students. Department of Information Science and Engineering takes special efforts to impart learning ability for the students. The students are focused with the use of conceptual understanding of core domain area in Computing as well as enhanced programming skills disseminating their analytical abilities. The faculties of our department are well qualified and have rich knowledge in their subjects.

The department has got permanent affiliation from VTU and is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with ‘A’ Grade.

Department has good interactions and MOUs with leading technology domain Industries. Department is committed to encourage students to carry out innovative research in the field of Information Science & Engineering , keeping excellence in focus and deliver quality services to match the needs of the technical education system, industry and society.

Our students are encouraged to take up competitive exams and we also motivate them to participate in intercollege events like cultural and technical events. Our students are provided with special placement training from Fifth Semester onwards, resulting in placements in reputed companies like, TCS, Wipro, ITC Infotech, Inzoom, HP, Infosys, TCS, IBM, Mindtree, Cognizant, JK Technosoft, Mphasis.

Faculties have done their patents and research work and published more than 15 papers in many of the reputed indexed journals.
Faculties and Technical staff are actively participating in inter-departmental as well as inter-collegiate sports competitions and got laurels to the college and the department.
Organized visits to various industries viz., IIAP, HAL....etc.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

PEO1: Pursue a successful career in the field of Information Science & Engineering or a related field utilizing his/her education and contribute to the profession as an excellent employee, or as an entrepreneur.

PO-1: Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and Computer Science and Engineering principles to the solution of complex problems in Computer Science and Engineering.
PO-2: Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex Computer Science and Engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics and engineering sciences.

FACILITIES

LABORATORY

The institution has always kept its target of providing Student-to-computer ratio of 1:1 during their laboratory exercises
The Department is well equipped with the latest computers with modern multimedia features and Licensed software. Computer Labs have been loaded with Microsoft Windows 10 and Ubuntu Operating System. All the labs are connected with 100MBPS high-speed internet service. The lab is used to train the students to improve their programming knowledge and make experiments to get familiar with the Core Courses. This lab helps placement cell to conduct online test and Placement training for students during placement drive.

DATA STRUCTURES LABORATORY

Data structures laboratory is spatial and well equipped with the latest systems. It provides a wide approach in c programming and enables to apply knowledge. Guidance’s are provided to the students by a team of faculty experts and lab programmer. The lab is used to train the students to improve their programming knowledge and make experiments to get familiar with the core courses.

This lab is well established and fully equipped with dell & hp pc’s. Android has become one of the biggest phone platforms and all the tools required to build android applications are also freely available. Student will also be introduced to design small android applications using the tool and perform simulations that will help them evaluate their design approaches and expected performance. Students can create android virtual devices (avd) via the android sdk, which run in this emulator. Guidance’s are provided to the students by a team of faculty experts and lab programmer. This lab helps placement cell to conduct online aptitude test for students during placement drive.

The major objective of this lab is to provide a strong formal foundation in database concepts, technology and practice to the participants to groom them into well-informed database application developers.

The purpose of this lab is to quickly get students up to speed with basic usage of the unix development environment, as a preparation for all future lab activities.

The computer networks laboratory is designed for the undergraduate students to have the experiment related to the computer networks courses. Exercises comprising simulation of various protocols and performance study; tcp/ip level programming, routing algorithms and internetworking..

Microcontroller’s laboratory helps the students to develop their knowledge on processor architecture and the programming skills. This laboratory houses the hardware which includes 8085 microprocessor trainer kits, 8086 microprocessor trainer kits, 8051 microcontroller trainer kits, interfacing cards and software keil-51. This laboratory provides hand-on experience to interface i/o devices, perform a/d and d/a conversions, design digital clock, traffic light control system etc., the features and facilities available in this laboratory helps the students to do their projects and enhance their knowledge on the latest trends and technologies. Students from other branch of engineering also make use of this laboratory and develop their skills in the field of microprocessors & microcontrollers and their applications.

Operating system laboratory is special and well equipped with the latest configuration machines. System is connected via an ethernet network to the domain server (ktr). Guidance's are provided to the students by a team of faculty experts and lab programmer. The lab is used to train the students to improve their programming knowledge and make experiments to get familiar with the core courses.

This lab reinforces understanding of basic object oriented programming concepts (objects, classes and subclasses, methods) and their expression in java. It also provides practice using non-object aspects of java (loops, conditionals, etc.)

Departmenet Library

The Department Library occupies a unique place in academic and research activities of the Department. The Department Library maintains an excellent collection of e-books, research papers, Textbooks and project reports. The Department Library has a well-equipped facility for reading to meet the informational needs and intellectual pursuit of Department. In consultation with the head of the department, designed and co-ordinated the rules, regulations and functioning of the department library.

About NCET Alumni Association

One of the assessments for the quality of an institution is the success of its alumni. Active alumni also mean that the institution is developing strong roots in society. It’s a platform where successful alumni from all walks of life meet each other and express openly their thanks and gratitude for the opportunities provided to them by the alma mater.

The seeds for the transformation are sown during the students’ stay at NCET. In carrying out job and civic responsibilities, alumni draw on what they learned in earning a college degree. They demonstrate for all to see what value their education has for them and they truly represent the institution in different walks of their life.

The NCET Alumni association can make a vital contribution by supporting the Institute in the accomplishment of its mission. They can contribute as goodwill ambassadors, student recruiters, and a pool of expertise in a broad range of fields which can be employed in Institute initiatives, both academic and administrative. The NCET Alumni Association is an excellent forum to keep in touch with your alma mater, learn how your institution is achieving its strategic intent, and above all reinforce the relationship you formed during your stay at college while forming new ones.

Objectives of the Alumni Association

To arrange expert lectures by eminent alumni & other prominent industrialists for the benefit of students.
To conduct Alumni-Students Knowledge Exchange Programs.
To bring together the ex-students of NCET and to promote fellowship amongst them and their families.
To serve as a forum to promote and foster relationship among the alumni, the present students, the staff and the management of NCET.
To maintain continuous interaction between the past and present students by publishing a newsletter, holding periodical Alumni day celebration or by any other activity as decided by the association.
To effectively participate in revision of syllabi and development of curriculum.

FIVE DAY’S WORKSHOP ON EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES

Five Day’s Workshop on Emerging Technologies was organized by Department of Information Science & Engineering, Nagarjuna College of Engineering and Technology, Bangalore, on 28-04-2022 to 01-04-2022. Around 244 faculty and student members from various colleges across the country from different institutions have participated in the online workshop.

Industry Expert Talk was organized by Department of Information Science & Engineering on 27-11-2021. WORKSHOP ON NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY-2020

Workshop on National Education Policy-2020 organized by Department of was organized by Department of Information Science & Engineering on 8-10-2021 to its teaching staff to give an insight of New Education Policy 2020. The aim was to make all the staff members understand the vision and mission of the policy and try to incorporate the same in coming years

TWO DAY’S WEBINAR ON DEEP LEARNING

Two day’s webinar on Deep Learning was organized by Department of Information Science & Engineering on 25-05-2020 and 26-05-2020 under IEEE SSIT Bangalore Section. The webinar was aimed at improving the skills of faculty and students in Deep Learning. Many concepts related to machine learning and deep learning were explained during the session.

INVITED TALK ON ERGONOMICS

Invited Talk on ergonomics was organized by Department of Information Science & Engineering on 19-02-2019. Mr. Basavaraj C.H, CEO, BCS Innovations, Bengaluru delivered a talk covering MEMS technologies, photo monitoring system for optimization of cultivation, Biochip, CAN (Controller Area Network) and Red Tacton and concepts of Machine Learning.

THREE DAY’S WORKSHOP ON ANDROID PROGRAMMING

ECE Department organized Three Day hands on workshop on Robotic application using TI Microcontroller under Robotic club from 16th to 18th September 2019. Dr. S G Gopala Krishna, Director NES, Dr. Srikantamurthy K Principal, NCET, Dr. K N Nagesh HOD ECE and Mr. Gaurav Bisuness Head Edgate Technology (Associate Partners of Texas Instrument University Program) inagurated the workshop on 16/09/2019. More than 50 students Registered and participated the workshop. At the end of the workshop Department received One Robotic Kit (RSLK) worth of Rs10,000 which is helpful to learn, develop and Participate Robotic related activities.
